Night of Appreciation for Our H.E.A.R.T.S. Caregivers

A warm evening of recognition, connection, and gratitude

Some moments remind us why we do the work we do—moments when laughter fills the room, stories are shared over delicious food, and the incredible strength of the human spirit is on full display. Our recent appreciation dinner at Smash Kitchen and Bar was precisely one of those moments.

As we celebrated the conclusion of our H.E.A.R.T.S. Caregiver Program, we were surrounded by some of the most inspiring people we’ve ever had the privilege to work with: older adult caregivers who dedicate their lives to supporting loved ones with developmental disabilities.

More Than a Program—A Community

The H.E.A.R.T.S. Program, made possible through the generous funding of United Way Greater Toronto’s Allan Slaight Seniors Fund, was designed to provide more than just resources. Yes, we offered vital support services and educational tools, but at its core, this program was about connection. It was about creating a space where caregivers could find understanding, share experiences, and realize they weren’t walking this journey alone.

Throughout the program, we witnessed incredible moments of vulnerability and strength. Caregivers shared their challenges, celebrated their victories, and supported one another through the ups and downs of their caregiving journey. They formed bonds that extend far beyond the program’s official timeline. HEARTS group photo

An Evening Well-Deserved

The appreciation dinner wasn’t just an end—it was a celebration of everything these remarkable individuals represent. As we gathered at Smash Kitchen and Bar, the atmosphere was filled with warmth and joy. Stories flowed as freely as the conversation, and for an evening, these dedicated caregivers were able to be appreciated for who they are and all they give.

Watching our caregiver clients laugh together, share their experiences, and enjoy a well-deserved break from their daily responsibilities was profoundly moving. These are individuals who often put the needs of others before their own, who navigate complex systems and challenges with grace, and who love fiercely despite the difficulties they face.

Client Testimonials

We also thank you so much for hosting the dinner.  We enjoyed the food and everyone’s company and were happy to see some whom we did not see since before the Covid 19 pandemic. The gifts in the basket were so carefully and thoughtfully chosen.  The Lego puzzles are such perfect gifts.  We will surely enjoy building the Lego puzzles together.  We are also very appreciative of the generous Toronto Zoo and the PC gift cards.  The Toronto Zoo gift card is also such a perfect timing gift at a time when we are thinking of revisiting the zoo with Melynda after she has been there so many, many years ago.

As your classes come to a close next month, we would like to thank you for your hard work and dedication over the past five years. Melynda always enjoyed making the cards and always planned who she would give them to. She will really miss your classes. Thank you again for sharing your time and talents with us over these years.
Hopefully we will continue to keep in touch!
Warmly,
Christina and Melynda

Thank you ever so much for a beautiful evening at the Hearts Dinner Party. I was blown away with the caliber of the dishes served and the attentiveness of the staff. It was wonderful to meet other Moms and their kids and we enjoyed each other’s conversation. We had a common element that our kids had participated in the Virtual Summer Camp.  And how generous you were with the gift basket filled with so many items and gift cards. Amy and I have completed the Happy Plants Lego and will probably start another one soon. We are going to invite her Aunt to the zoo as we have been meaning to go with her. Now having the gift card will make the day even better! Thank you again and Amy is looking forward to the August Art class and will register when it is announced.

Sincerely,

Cathy Jaeger

The Heart of It All

To our H.E.A.R.T.S. Program caregivers: you truly are the heart of everything we do. Your unwavering commitment to your loved ones, your resilience in the face of challenges, and your capacity for love inspire us every single day. You’ve shown us what it means to care deeply, to persist through difficulties, and to find joy in the most minor victories.thank you stand

The connections you’ve formed with each other during this program are a testament to the power of community support. You’ve created a network of understanding and mutual aid that will continue long after the formal program has ended.

Looking Forward with Gratitude

As we reflect on the success of the H.E.A.R.T.S. Program, we’re filled with gratitude—for the United Way Greater Toronto and the Allan Slaight Seniors Fund for making this program possible, for Smash Kitchen and Bar for hosting our celebration, and most importantly, for each caregiver who participated and shared their journey with us.
