The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here – our 2023-2024 Annual Report is here! 🎊 Let’s dive into the exciting journey of success and growth in the past year while we set our sights on new achievements through the guidance of our new strategic plan.

The year started with considerable optimism. It felt as if the threat of COVID had substantially subsided, which was true. However, we underestimated its lingering impact and other complex health issues that arose with both our clients and their caregivers. After three years of high alert, people continued to be worried about the possibility of exposure, and unfortunately, various outbreaks continued to occur over the year.

The implications for ESS were significant. Clients’ return to in-person programming was slow, and the ESS Team worked diligently to achieve pre-pandemic levels. It was not until the fall that we began to experience acceptable levels of attendance in most of our programs. A great deal of effort was put into reassuring the community that it was once again safe to gather in groups. Out of an abundance of caution, we also ensured we brought people back slowly and carefully.

We did notice significant changes in our clients. After three years, much of which was spent in isolation, they sadly had deteriorated. They exhibited much greater frailty, and their underlying health conditions were more severe and complex. While returning to in-person programs presented opportunities to mitigate some of these situations for our vulnerable clients, there is no doubt that many were starting from a more challenging health position.

By year-end, most of our programs and services were operating at our targeted levels. With this stability, our focus has shifted to implementing our new Strategic Plan to achieve the following cornerstone goals: •Enhancing Client and Family-Centered Care •Preparing for Change •Investing in our People •Improving our Effectiveness.

We look forward to a year of new growth and opportunities in 2024-25. Fortunately, the preparation and protocols we established last year will position us well to materialize on being proactive. Resilience and the capacity to adapt during significant change have given ESS confidence that we can and will reach our full potential in the coming year.
