Message From Our CEO:

ESS is guided in its work and activities by the Strategic Plan that is developed and approved by its Board. As of April 1, 2024, ESS’s former Strategic Plan expired, and work commenced on designing and developing a new plan in Spring 2023.

The project was initiated by research on changes in the community and among our clients.  This was done to ensure that our activities and services continue to meet the changing needs of the seniors whom we serve. The research undertaken revealed two important changes that should be considered in guiding our new directions:

Our traditional clients, especially the three years of COVID, have become frailer and subject to increasing health challenges, and the community itself continues to undergo a significant demographic transformation. The population is becoming increasingly diverse.  The ethnic, linguistic, and cultural diversity of our community is changing rapidly.

To address these changes, four new Strategic Priorities were identified to guide our activities over the coming three years. These priorities are:

  1. Enhancing Client and Family-Centered Care, for example, by developing and implementing a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plan and refocusing our programs and services to appeal to and support non-traditional clients
  2. Preparing for Change, for example, involves building partnerships, raising awareness of the CSS value added to funders and policymakers, and being more creative in our funding and revenue generation approaches.
  3. Investing in our People, for example, through improved communications with staff and volunteers and employee appreciation approaches.
  4. Increasing our Effectiveness, for example, by continuing to strengthen our quality improvement culture and adopting more efficient tools and systems

Given the constantly changing environment in which we operate and the depth of the research and consultation we undertook to develop this new Strategic Plan, we are confident that we will be well-positioned to move forward and continue to offer highly important, relevant, and needed programs and services for all the seniors in our community.  Close monitoring of our achievements will help us identify adjustments needed throughout this three-year period.

This strategic plan development was grounded in an environmental scan, a review of documents and internal reports, a
demographic scan, and extensive staff and client engagement.

The Board of Directors has co-created this plan through a robust engagement process with clients, caregivers, volunteers, community
members, and our staff. We would like to acknowledge Strategy Systems Inc. for their support and guidance throughout this process.
