The 2024 theme for Black History Month is: “Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build”. This theme celebrates the rich past and present contributions and accomplishments of Black Canadians while aspiring to embrace new opportunities for the future.

Black History Month is “both an opportunity to engage in open dialogue and a commitment to learning more about the communities in Canada have to tell about their histories, successes, sacrifices, and triumphs.” – Canada.ca

It is an opportunity to learn about the history of Black Canadians, to recognize the role they have played in building our city, and how they continue to help shape our country. Moreover, to understand the vital need to combat racism, discrimination, and inequity in our communities. By fostering a deeper understanding of their experiences, we can work towards a more inclusive society.
