Volunteering
 

Volunteers are essential to many of the programs and services offered by Etobicoke Services for Seniors.

The individuals who come to volunteer are people of all ages - they include students, workers and retirees. They join us to help their fellow neighbour enjoy a better quality of life.

Volunteer positions are available for both short-term and long-term periods. You can volunteer throughout the week as well as on weekends

Direct Service Volunteer Positions

  • Adult Day Services Assistant
    Assist the Adult Day Services' staff with activities and meal preparation.
    Commitment of 1 day per week required.

  • Adult Day Services Entertainer
    Provide entertainment for the seniors attending the Adult Day Service.
    Schedule is flexible.

  • Senior's Lunch Program Assistant
    Assist the Lunch Program staff with activities and meal preparations
    Commitment: Every Friday, 11-2pm (flexibility available)

  • Senior's Lunch Program Entertainer
    Provide entertainment for the seniors attending the Senior's Lunch Program.
    Schedule is flexible.

  • Escorted Transportation Driver
    Provide escorted transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping and to social activities or programs for seniors or adults with disabilities. Schedule is flexible; 2 drives each month is preferred.

  • Telephone Reassurance
    Help ensure, through ongoing telephone contact, that an isolated senior is not in crisis.
    Calls, 5-10 minutes in length, are made as needed (daily or weekly).

  • Volunteer Visiting
    Provide a weekly social visit to an isolated senior.
    A minimum commitment of one hour per week is required.

  • Caring Centre Visitor
    Provide a weekly social visit to seniors staying in our Caring Centre.
    A minimum commitment of two hours a week is preferred

Administrative Based Volunteer Positions

  • Board of Directors
    Join other Etobicoke community members on the Board of Directors. A background and/or interest in senior issues, law, social services, or business is an asset. Board meetings are held monthly in the evenings (2-6 hours per month).

  • Committee Members
    Community members can also join a committee. The following committees are available: Volunteer Advisory, Fundraising, Finance, and Community Issues.

  • Fundraising
    Help raise crucial funds that will be used to support seniors in their desire to remain independent in their own homes and community. A variety of positions available.

  • General Office Support
    Volunteers are occasionally needed to assist with filing, photocopying, bulk mailings and answering telephones.

Please note: a Police Reference Check is a required part of our screening process for many of our positions.
