Local registered charity invites donors to support seniors during 65-hour online giving event

Etobicoke, ON June 28, 2018The senior population is rapidly increasing.  At ESS Support Services, our services and programs are in high demand with the growing senior population.  We rely heavily on the generous support of the community to continue providing programs and services that empower seniors to remain independent and to age with dignity.

From July 10 to 12, ESS is participating in the first-ever GIVE65 Event, a 65-hour online giving event to help charitable organizations serving seniors raise funds online and increase awareness. Senior-focused organizations throughout Canada are participating in this online event. This year, we’re raising funds to enhance the safety, comfort and therapeutic programming offered in our Alderwood Adult Day Program. Our goal is to install a dementia-friendly security system to reduce the risk of wandering outside of the program, building a therapeutic senior-friendly garden  and purchasing new program chairs for mobility support.

During the GIVE65 Event, ESS is also raising funds with the hopes of receiving up to $5,000 in matching funds from the Home Instead Senior Care Foundation of Canada. We are also competing for a $2,500 bonus grant. This year, there are six bonus grants to be awarded to the small, medium and large size charities that raise the most money or have the most donors participate. Donations of $10 or greater are accepted online at GIVE65.ca

“GIVE65 allows us to help seniors in our community while raising awareness of the critical need for the programs and services that so many rely on,” says Dolores Ellerker, CEO, ESS Support Services.

The 65-hour GIVE65 Event begins at 7 a.m. CDT on Tuesday, July 10 and concludes at midnight on July 12. This event is an initiative of the Home Instead Senior Care Foundation of Canada and the first and only crowd-fundraising platform focused on helping charitable organizations across Canada raise funds for programs and services benefiting seniors.

“Every gift will help seniors at the local level in communities throughout Canada,” says Roger Baumgart, of Home Instead Senior Care Foundation of Canada. “We’re thrilled to partner with ESS Support Services for the first-ever GIVE65 Event in Canada, and we are hopeful our partnership will ignite greater charitable giving in support of seniors who rely on the charitable sector.”

But you don’t have to wait until July 10 to make your donation. Beginning July 1, anyone who wants to support the mission of ESS, can visit www.give65.ca/seniordayprogram to pre-schedule a secure, online donation. Through GIVE65, donations will help us enhance our program by providing safety and peace of mind for caregivers and improved daily enjoyment and quality of life for the individuals who are cared for in our program.
